The count, extended to December 28, indicates this decline. Snezana Remikovic, Assistant Director of Montenegro’s Statistical Office – Monstat, reported on December 17 that the census covered 564,000 people, 308,000 apartments, and 181,000 households.

While she refrained from commenting on the initial findings, which suggest a population drop, she acknowledged the decline in a statement to Vijesti Television, as reported by Beta.

Montenegro’s government extended the census by ten days, reflecting the significant nature of these findings. Dragan Koprivica, Executive Director of the Centre for Democratic Transition (CDT), described the decreasing population figures as “alarming” and indicative of the country’s lack of a demographic policy. Preliminary census results are expected within 30 days after its conclusion, with final data available in six months.
