Zagreb Opens New Traffic Management Centre

The capital of Croatia, Zagreb, has inaugurated its new Zagreb Traffic Management Centre — a state-of-the-art operational hub that will monitor traffic in real time and optimise coordination across the entire transport network.

City officials say the system will make daily commuting smoother, reduce traffic jams and accelerate public transport. Trams will be prioritised at traffic lights, with quicker exits at key terminals and priority signalling along major streets like Ozaljska Street.

The city has already invested more than €20 million in modernising intersections — and another €10 million is earmarked in next year’s budget. So far, 161 signalised intersections are connected to the network, with a target of reaching 180 by year’s end. By 2028, Zagreb aims to integrate all 487 intersections into this unified smart-traffic system.
