A new cross-border train promises to boost regional ties, sustainable travel, and summer adventures across Croatia and Slovenia
For the first time in over 30 years, Zagreb, Ljubljana and Pula will be linked by a direct rail service, as Croatian and Slovenian railways join forces to launch the route on 20 June 2025.
The sleek, low-floor Slovenian train — equipped with Wi-Fi, bike spaces, and access for wheelchair users — will depart Zagreb every Friday, pass through Ljubljana and arrive in Pula, returning on Sundays.
The service, running until 13 December, offers 171 seats and speeds up to 140 km/h.
It complements existing daily connections between Zagreb and Ljubljana and introduces additional cross-border trains: Pula–Divača on Saturdays and seasonal Buzet–Divača trains from late June to August.
Operators say this is more than just a timetable change — it’s a step toward greener, more connected travel in the region.
