Zagreb is stepping into the future with its first electric bus, a move that signals the Croatian capital’s commitment to a greener tomorrow.
The vehicle, showcased by Olympic gold medalist and city mayor Tomislav Tomašević, promises to be the first of many as part of a rapid de-carbonisation initiative.
Tomašević stated that the electric bus was the first of many in a future fleet set to replace fossil-fuel-powered vehicles, aiming to improve air quality and reduce noise.
He explained that the bus, equipped with a 210 kWh motor and a range of 310 km, could carry 68 passengers and would soon be deployed on the 113 route, which circles Jarun on weekends.
The value of the bus, at €450,000, reflects a bold step toward sustainable urban mobility, with more vehicles expected soon.
By next year, Zagreb plans to introduce 60 new electric buses, supported by EU funding.
Martin Sinković, a former Olympian and the bus’s first tester, encouraged citizens to experience the quieter, greener ride.
As the city moves towards an all-electric fleet within a decade, Zagreb paves the way for other European cities to follow.
