The European Union’s gas reserves have reached 95% capacity ahead of winter, surpassing the EU’s minimum requirement for 1 November, according to the European Commission. Member states had set a binding goal of filling gas storage to at least 90% capacity, a target surpassed this year as it was in 2022.

Germany, Europe’s largest economy, led the charge with storage at 98% capacity by the end of October, exceeding its national mandate of 95%.

These provisions, established across the EU, aim to safeguard supplies and maintain stability even if consumption spikes due to an exceptionally cold winter, ensuring gas availability across the region.
