Coffee Producers Urge EU to Delay Deforestation Ban

The world's top coffee producers, including Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia, are asking the European Union to delay a new regulation that would ban imports of coffee linked to deforestation

Set to take effect later this year, the rule would also affect products like cocoa and palm oil unless companies can prove the goods come from non-deforested areas.

Vanusia Nogueira, head of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), said the industry needs more time to meet the requirements, adding, “Europeans love their coffee… They won’t go without it.” The ICO represents over 90% of global coffee production.
