Automobile and Construction Textile Waste in Serbia Turned into New Products

With EU support through the "EU for the Green Agenda in Serbia" project, two companies near Belgrade are recycling automotive and construction textile waste into new products

This contributes to a circular economy, reducing waste, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions, while helping to protect the environment.

Thanks to EU co-financing, “Steel Impex” in Krnješevci can now recycle 80-90% of a vehicle and produce high-purity metal granules. This will reduce Serbia’s automotive waste by over 165,000 tonnes in the next 20 years.

Additionally, “ArTech Engineering” in Dobanovci has developed “reteks,” a new material made from textile scraps, suitable for use in construction and interior design. The project has supported 66 green innovations, with a total value of USD 25 million.
